At United Way, we are making a difference by expanding access to high quality, affordable, enriching child care for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers and helping students and their families enroll.
The first six years of a child’s life are critical for their brain development. During this time, environmental factors significantly influence their health, learning abilities, behavior, and future productivity. Although families, caregivers, and communities play a crucial role, there are gaps in the opportunities and resources available to support early childhood development.
We help child care providers improve the quality of their programming and their facilities. We host a monthly volunteer event helping get diapers to families and collect and deliver donations of toys, coats, and diapers for babies and toddlers.
Our Efforts Include:
- Early Head Start
- Early Childhood Enhancement Grants
- Parent Leadership Training Institute
- School Readiness
- Volunteer support of the CT Diaper Bank
- Donation drives for diapers, toys and coats for toddlers and infants
- Advocacy for child care workers, funding for child care programs
