Hamden Food Collaborative
United Way works alongside local community organizations with likeminded goals to provide healthy food to Greater New Haven. When we come together with bold goals, we can drive positive change for all.
The Hamden Food Collaborative is composed of 13 member agencies who work to organize food assistance efforts with a focus on improving access to healthy food for Hamden residents.
Our mission is to see that everyone in Hamden will have access to nutritious and affordable food regardless of income, race, culture, ethnicity, age, gender, or ZIP code through an informed, coordinated response to hunger in our community.
FOOD HARDSHIP IN HAMDEN
Hamden Food Network's Mission: Everyone in Hamden will have access to nutritious and affordable food regardless of income, race, culture, ethnicity, age, gender, or ZIP code through an informed, coordinated response to hunger in our community.
A comprehensive report, “Food Hardship in Hamden,” by the Hamden Food Network, has been released. This report looks at the past five years of the food security landscape in Hamden. Based on this evidence, the report provides a vision forward to achieve the mission of Hamden Food Network.
“A volunteer task force was convened in 2017 to begin the process of finding solutions to the increase in food hardship in our community and the lack of powerful and enduring solutions. Service providers had talked for years about food hardship throughout the Greater New Haven region, and chose Hamden as the town to begin the process of finding solutions… The data and provider experience in the region showed that the problem was much greater than most people understood. A Hamden Food Network of committed citizens formed to seek answers.”
