Days of Caring 2009
United Way's Days of Caring 2009 was a tremendous success and it couldn't have been done without you!
Your commitment to creating a lasting change in Greater New Haven is truly inspirational. Wonderful volunteer projects and improvements to local non-profits took place all over the city, while volunteers generously gave their time and talent to improve our community. This year we connected hundreds of volunteers with meaningful opportunities in the Greater New Haven area, and saved non-profits thousands of dollars that would have otherwise been spent on improvements.
Days of Caring 2009 Highlights
- The United Ways of Greater New Haven, Coastal Fairfield County and Western Connecticut partnered with the Diaper Bank and collected 300,000 diapers for lower income families in our 33-town region.
- Healthy Baby Diaper Drive co-chairs-Janice Gruendel, Consultant for state of CT Board of Education, and Irene Cornish, Superintendent of Schools in Stratford-convened a forum of elected officials and business, municipal and service provider leaders to highlight the need in our local communities and champion a call to action to support struggling children and families.
- Yale University galvanized support accross campus and collected 2, 651 new and gently-used children's books that were donated to support learning and the love of literacy to New Haven Reads.
- Yale New Haven hospital employees continued their impressive streak of breaking records by collecting 28, 529 school supplies in 2009 that were distributed to students at New Haven public schools.
