You Made a Difference in 2008!

Thank you to all who made United Way Days of Caring 2008 a tremendous success! Special thanks to our sponsors: Yale-New Haven Hospital, Covidien, WTNH News Channel 8/My 9, and Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield.


United Way Days of Caring volunteers logged more than 5,100 hours, worth over $100,000, to benefit the region’s nonprofit agencies, schools, parks and towns.

  • This year’s Days of Caring included over 40 beautification, repair, and Clean-up projects, 76 drives, and dozens of other unique activities. In total, 132 volunteer projects took place at 43 nonprofit agencies.
  • In addition to the Healthy Baby Diaper Drive, Days of Caring included 3 school supply drives, 3 food drives, a coat and clothing drive, and a drive for childrens games and toys.

Days of Caring 2008 included several innovative projects such as

  • Touch a Truck 1,300 people attended the Branford High School and donated a total of 25,000 diapers to be distributed to families all over Greater New Haven and the Shoreline. The event was organized with the Town of Branford and was a way of introducing both United Way and our Success by 6 initiative to the community.
  • The Healthy Baby Diaper Drive 33 companies, agencies and towns organized a total of 68 collection sites across the region and successfully collected 100,000 diapers to double our goal of 50,000 diapers. The diaper donation was equivalent to $20,000!

  • Book Drive An all-college book drive delivered 5,000 children’s books to Read to Grow and the New Haven Reads Community Book Bank thanks to the generosity of employees and students at Yale University, University of New Haven, Albertus Magnus College, Gateway Community College, Quinnipiac University, and Southern Connecticut State University.
