Boost! Service Corps Member
Tell us a little about how you Live United by giving, advocating and volunteering in the community.

Born in Lima, Peru and raised in the Bronx, NY, I am looking forward about New Haven is starting a new chapter in my life and meet new people along the way. This will be a challenging experience coming from a huge city like New York to New Haven. I am excited to get to work as an AmeriCorps VISTA and for the Boost Program to have the opportunity to prepare students to success in their lives. The reason I chose to serve because growing up in the South Bronx has shown me that children do not take advantage of their education because families are not involved in schools and do not have positive role models. At Connecticut College, I worked as a mentor coordinator for a program called MY BROTHER to help children from 6th and 7th grade be involved in a college environment and develop their skills in math and reading. Living in diverse community in New London, have shown me that Hispanic parents want to get involved in their children’s education. I believe that parental involvement contributes support for a child’s success. By becoming an AmeriCorps VISTA is giving me the opportunity to use my experience and skills to help schools get the students to take advantage of their education and achieve their future goals. Serving as a VISTA we will be able to make a difference on a young person’s life.
