Blogger Introduction: 
Jan McCray provides management for United Way's Volunteer Programs including Smart About Money (SAM) a free budget coaching program assisting low to moderate income residents of New Haven, West Haven, East Haven, North Haven and Hamden set and achieve financial goals through a series of one on one sessions with trained volunteer budget coaches. Jan has lead responsibility for community initiatives including New Haven County’s Emergency Food and Shelter National Program (EFSP) which invests critical dollars in emergency services (e.g. food insecurity, rental eviction and mortgage foreclosure prevention, emergency shelter and energy assistance) to programming providing services to the residents of New Haven County. Jan assists with the administration of a large array of United Way’s community investment strategies focusing on investments to increase financial stability for individuals and families in our region and designed to meet the changing needs of Greater New Haven, stimulate community growth and demonstrate “results that matter”. Jan has served as a member of the New Haven Continuum's Steering Committee, the Annual Point In Time (PIT) Count Committee and New Haven Asset Building Collaborative. Jan is also a former wo term board co-chair of the Greater New Haven Association of Volunteer Administrators (GNHAVA). A professional membership organization uniting individuals engaged in volunteer management and dedicated to enhancing the competency of volunteer administrators and strengthening the profession of volunteer resource management. As an alumni of Leadership Greater New Haven Jan along with her fellow teammates established "The Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce’s Non-Traditional Scholarship". This scholarship bridges funding gaps for greater New Haven residents who do not meet traditional scholarship qualifications, were previously unable to complete higher education and are currently working towards economic self-sufficiency. Jan is also a recipient of New Haven Business Times, Forty Under 40 Award for Professional Achievement and Community Involvement.
