Women's Initiative members gathered to prepare a homemade meal for about 60 people on Saturday, February 11, 2012. The volunteer event, which took place with one of United Way's partners, The Community Dining Room (CDR), enlisted the culinary skills of volunteers who prepared and served lunch. CDR is located in Branford and serves south-central Connecticut low-income families. For the past few years United Way of Greater New Haven has invested in CDR's programs that address a critical need in the region through Neighbor-to-Neighbor Lifeline.
With a rise in demand for programs this past fall, United Way's Women's Initiative was happy to contribute to the 4,000 meals CDR provides to its guests each month. The hot meal was well-received by grateful guests, and the group of women enjoyed sharing their time and talent.
A special thanks to Daisy Du, Nicole Iames, Ange Zhou, and Judy Liang Zhang of the Yale School of Management, Women in Business (WIM) group, as well as to Donita Aruny of the Shoreline Arts Alliance, Giulia Gouge of SheSoSocial, and Carole Weisberg of Charter Oak State College.
