I envision a community where children and families have access to healthy nutritious food and affordable health care.
I am hopeful that the families who lost their homes due to Tropical Storm Irene can rebuild their legal non-conforming homes so they are not forced to meet current zoning regulations. I would also like to see a clothing/coat drive for the victims as well. I just recently put together 3 large bags of clothes, shoes, coats and books for a family who lost their entire home in the storm.
I envision a community where all of its citizens respect each other, are tolerant and understanding and share in a vision of hope and prosperity.
I hope that people better understand how their actions impact themselves and others. With a better understanding of long term consequences people could make better choices for their health, society and our shared environment.
I envision a community where every child is given opportunities, patience, and supportive guidance to become educated, mature, confident, loving, empowered, capable young adults.
I envision a community where each child is treated as one own individual, where one can appreciate all they have to offer. No labeling of children and no bullying!
I dream of a community where all people, young and old, feel safe. That there is a sense of safety when riding your bike down the street, enjoying time outdoors, perusing the internet, talking with one another, sharing thoughts and ideas, and being yourself.
I dream of a day when children can grow up feeling empowered by what is on the inside and not made to feel its only what is on the outside that is important. A more thorough understanding of the consequences (like eating disorders and depression) is needed in every community.
I envision a community where children have the access of education, activities, and resources that can help them get into college and be successful in life. Parents should provide all the support for their children and invest in their child’s future because our children are today's future.
I envision a community where we are not defined by our race, gender, class, sexual orientation, etc. This community would be a place where no one person is privileged over another, for we are all human beings deserving of respect and the opportunity to succeed in life. Every single person should be able to live life to the fullest.
I envision a community where citizens, politicians and businesspeople work together toward common goals instead of the divisive, mean-spirited dialogue that seems to permeate our fractured society today. The vitriol that passes for political debate at every level - local, state and nationally - is ripping apart our society at its seams. This, as economic pressures led by higher energy and food prices, continuing high rates of unemployment, underemployment, the lack of affordable health care and insurance policies of all kinds that exclude more than they cover is incredibly damaging.
I envision my community where one day that fathers can grab their sons hands and direct them to achieve to become a better role model than they were, I also envision my community where youth activity along with healthy snacks in all community stores so we can fight obesity.
I see a community that is coming together with common goals of healthy food, movement towards better healthcare, people who care about health and well-being of their neighbors, each individual person acknowledged and appreciated for their uniqueness and the gifts they bring to the whole.
I'd like to see more tolerance and understanding toward all people, but especially from our children. It's up to us, as parents, to teach our children that "different" is ok and to accept that even at a basic level, though you may not like someone, it's never acceptable to strip away someone else's dignity. Being a bully is never ok. Basic respect of and to all people.
I would like to provide scholastic materials to the orphaned children who at school and even improve health care to the poor families you know we in africa w3e are so poor so we need more attention to the poor families
I would like to provide more and better opportunities for the children ( e.g., community centers). There are not enough programs available to the youths in the community giving them more opportunities to become involved in drugs, alcohol, and violence. Communities have to build from the inside in order to make change and if society is going to take the measures in ensuring the well-being of individuals and reduce violence, many people are going to be needed and not just service providers but the community as a whole. One particular area of concern is youth violence and one of the first requirements is to raise awareness of this problem. What causes urban street gang violence, and how can we better understand the reasons that shape this type of adolescent and youth behavior? All members of the community can contribute to the health and well-being of the children and plans will include teens, parents, community groups, and mental health providers. When community members from all walks of life work together, prevention efforts can be more effective.
United Way of Greater New Haven is dedicated to helping children and youth achieve their potential through education. One way we do this is through Boost!, a partnership the City of New Haven and the New Haven Public Schools to ensure young people’s success in school and in life.
Boost! is an element of the New Haven School Change Initiative and complements improvements in the schools by “wrapping around” the school day with supports and services that have been shown to contribute to academic success:
• Extended Learning Opportunities

I envision a community where low income individuals (youth and adults)have access to low cost post-secondary education (college degree and industry relevant credentialing) with solidified pipelines into livable wage employment.
I envision a community where former offenders will be given livable wage employment opportunities (that met the demand for employment within this population) and the day more of this population (than not) take full advantage of the opportunities available.
I envision a community where government(state and municipality), officers and community constituents work in an non-biased collaborative manner increasing public safety in an equitable manner.
I envision a community where the health concerns of all are addressed in a respectful, timely and cost efficient manner (to both taxpayers and recipients of health services).
