United Way's Top 10 Blogs of 2010

In 2010, a record number of community leaders blogged to share their perspective and insights with the community focused around United Way's work.  We hope to continue this trend in 2011 and invite you to join us. To kick off the year, we rounded up the Top 10 United Way Blogs of 2010. 


The Top 10 2010 blogs were selected based on several factors including traffic, comments and writing quality.  We hope this will help you find some gems you may have missed. 

 

1) In Memory of Frank Turner
Author: Barbara Pearce, Former United Way Campaign Chair, and Community Leader

This blog represents a farewell to a well known community leader and steadfast supporter of United Way’s work.


2) Boost! Non-Profit Forum
Author: Jennifer Heath, Vice President for Community Leadership, United Way of Greater New Haven

This blog shares United Way’s perspective on launching the Boost! initiative to help schools develop wrap around services to ensure students are ready and available to learn. It was selected because it had almost 10,000 page views-more then 5 times the next most popular. 


3) Why We Need A Formal System For Communication and Collaboration
Author:  Joanne Sciulli, Exectuive Director, Solar Youth

This thoughtful and emotionally powerful blog about changing the system ignited lots of interest on Facebook and inspired comments that are detailed enough to be blog posts on themselves.

4) A Framework for the New Civic Leadership
Author: Jack Healy, President and CEO, United Way of Greater New Haven

This blog about leadership skills received the second most page views of all of the blogs in 2010. It also drew the interest of several commentors.

5) Destiny Stands in Need of Us
Author: Sydney Perry, CEO, Jewish Federation of Greater New Haven

A deeply researched blog includes a quote from Machiavelli about how people make decisions 


6) Quality Education for All
Author: Janis Astor del Valle, Executive Director of Youth Rights Media

This blogger shares her perspective after watching “Waiting for Superman” and her views on the New Haven Promise.

7) Future Board Members
Author: John Crawford, Community Leader

John draws the communities attention to the question of how we develop new talent to take up positions on nonprofit boards, an issue he is working to advance.

8) A New Day in Healthcare: HUSKY Alternative to HMOs
Author: Sheldon Toubman , Staff Attorney, New Haven Legal Assistance.

This very dense, but informative, blog identifies areas of health advocacy for New Haven Legal Assistance.

9) GreenSkills Program Finishes Planting Season
Author: Lori Summers, Green Skills Crew Leader, URI

Lori shares her experience working with a team to plant tree as part of a skill building and environmentally friendly program.

10) Income Infograph: Economy in the Greater New Haven Area
Author: Justin Tartagni, New Media Intern, United Way of Greater New Haven

Justin shares an original inforgraphic that he created to increase people’s interest in the United Way’s income area. We hope to see more inforgraphics from Justin in the future.
