A Chamber Business After Hours was the setting for an announcement of a new collaboration between United Way of Greater New Haven and Branford Chamber of Commerce called “Community Connections: Making a Difference in Business & Life”. On Tuesday evening, January 24th, over 100 people packed the The Blackstone Library who hosted the event that was co-sponsored by Comcast Business Class.
Branford Chamber President, Ed Lazarus, announced the collaboration with United Way called Community Engagement Component (CEC). The CEC is an initiative that helps connect local businesses and engage their employees to support community needs and increase social responsibility. View photos of event.
“The Chamber is well positioned to work on this endeavor because of our commitment to making Branford a better place to live and work. When times are less than optimal, we should all be seeking to pull together for the betterment of all.” said Ed Lazarus, President of the Branford Chamber of Commerce. “With United Way’s capabilities, we see an efficient and effective way to help local businesses become part of the solution.” he continued.
As a liaison, the Chamber will promote opportunities for businesses to get involved in giving, advocating and/or volunteering through its non-profit council in collaboration with United Way or other local organizations.
United Way’s model has evolved over the years as their support in communities involves direct program delivery as well as collaboration with non-profits and community partners to more effectively impact local issues including critical housing and hunger needs that prevent families from being financially stable. “This is a great example of how we collaborate with community partners to get things done in our community,” said Jack Healy, President & CEO of United Way of Greater New Haven. “We look forward to working with many new organizations on the Shoreline as a result of this wonderful event”.
The huge success of the event would not be possible without the support and in-kind donations from many local businesses who exemplify what it means to Live United! A special thank you goes out to SBC Brewery with delicious hot Hors’devours and house brewed beer, appetizers from Foe, An American Bistro and Woodwinds, and wine and beverages donated and served by our friends at Bartender's Express and The Cork Shop all of Branford! Live Piano music was provided by Dave Graham of “My Piano or Yours”.
