Project Director Position Description
Background
The Elm City Early Head Start Collaborative is a new Early Head Start project. The lead agency (and grantee) is United Way of Greater New Haven (UWGNH); the three delegate agencies are Lulac, Lifehaven, and All Our Kin.
UWGNH seeks a full-time Project Director familiar with infant/toddler care experience and knowledge to support staff at the delegate agencies in creating developmentally-appropriate curricula and enriching experiences for children and families and to ensure effective program implementation. The ideal candidate will have experience with both center-based and licensed family child care settings. The Project Director must also have experience with Head Start and/or Early Head Start.
Job Responsibilities:
Duties of the EHS Program Director will include:
- Grant management
- Assess the performance and compliance of Early Head Start grantees
- Provide all required reports to federal government
- Work with fiscal officer to ensure appropriate use and reporting of EHS funds
- Program operation
- Help manage the provision of quality component (health, mental health, nutrition, etc.) services to children and families at the delegate agencies
- Manage and support Policy Council and provide assistance to delegates regarding their Policy Committees
- Conduct program planning/community needs assessment to ensure program design continues to meet the needs of the community
- Work with delegate agencies to coordinate development of relationships with community resources and connect children and families to community resources
- Work with delegate agencies to connect children and families to Head Start and public preschool programs, as well as the New Haven Public Schools’ K-12 system
- Technical assistance with content-specific issues related to infant/toddler care, family support, etc.
- Training and coaching for staff in the delegate agencies around quality infant/toddler care
Desired Skills/Experience/Qualities:
- Infant/Toddler Care experience (teacher or director)
- Experience working with both center-based and family child care programs
- Head Start or Early Head Start experience
- Skilled at building and sustaining relationships with a wide variety of individuals and organizations
- Experience in community collaboration/outreach
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Organized, with strong follow-through and attention to detail
- Technologically savvy (email, Word, Excel, online database systems)
- Self-directed with a “can do” attitude
- Experience in writing grant applications and grant reports
- College graduate
- Familiar with the New Haven community, or demonstrates the ability to learn about the community quickly
Supervision and Compensation:
The Early Head Start Project Director is a full-time position that will be housed at UWGNH. The Project Director will report to the UWGNH Vice President for Community Leadership. The position offers a competitive salary and generous benefits package. UWGNH is an equal opportunity employer.
