Home ›Metropolitan is not ALL Business: Hip Hop Dance After School!
Metropolitan Business Academy integrates business concepts and skills into all areas of its college preparatory education. But Metro is not all business as these dance photos demonstrate!
With support from community partners, Metropolitan is increasing afterschool program offerings to strengthen students’ connections to school, each other, and the community at large. This spring, with support from Boost! and United Way, Metropolitan was able to offer afterschool Hip Hop dance classes to students, bringing in Clyde Evans, an experienced dance instructor who has worked with students from numerous high schools and colleges including Wesleyan University. Mr. Evans was able to teach the students new dance moves as well as share some history of this urban art form with them, engaging and teaching at the same time.
Through project-based learning, Metropolitan offers students opportunities to apply its core values of innovation, integrity, and involvement – using state of the art technology, school leadership positions, internships, and community service. Through Boost!, school leaders are looking to use afterschool activities as additional opportunities for students to explore and express emotions, discover diverse cultures, expand their own creativity, and utilize independent thinking skills.
