Make a Resolution to Volunteer this Tax Season

The goal is for 4,000 households to benefit from free tax preparation services and income from tax credits through the VITA campaign this year.

VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) providers offer free tax preparation for individuals and families earning less than $50,000 a year. A low-income family that qualifies for the maximum federal and CT Earned Income Tax Credits could receive over $7,000 from filing their return.

The EITC is widely regarded as the single most effective poverty-reduction program for working families in the United States.  Too many people are not getting the tax credits they've earned from the state and federal government because of poor tax preparation, or they are receiving ursury loans in advance from predatory preparers.

Now is the time to become a VITA volunteer for the upcoming tax season.  Learn how to volunteer at http://www.uwgnh.org/vita
