Recently, the Knights of Columbus were awarded the 2011 Corporate Community Champion Award, given to the organization that has done the most to advance the common good in the community. Jack Healy, President & CEO of United Way of Greater New Haven presented the award to Charles Mauer, Supreme Treasurer at the Knights of Columbus. Over the past 5 years, employees of Knights of Columbus have contributed nearly $1 million dollars to the community through their United Way workplace campaign and corporate contributions. However, a true champion is not only defined by how much they raise in charitable dollars but more specifically in how they have contributed their time and talent to the community as well. Over the past few years, Knights of Columbus employees have participated faithfully in United Way's annual Days of Caring event. About 80 employees have volunteered at the Eli Whitney Museum assembling learning kits for their summer programs, contributing about 480 individual hours which equates to $10,252. In addition, as part of our 2009 Regional Diaper Drive, Knights of Columbus collected over 5,000 diapers for the Diaper Bank in North Haven who serves clients from all over Connecticut. The Knights of Columbus have certainly set the bar for corporate social responsibility and their efforts are to be applauded. On behalf of everyone at United Way and the countless lives of those touched by your gifts, thank you for showing what it means to Live United.
