Individuals of all ages should have the opportunity to live healthy and active lives as part of an energized community. The uninsured and underinsured are often in poorer health than most. More now than in the recent past, individuals and families are making tough decisions regarding which basic needs to fulfill, including whether to fill prescription medications as prescribed. Taking medication as prescribed, at the recommended frequency and dosage prevents the spread of illness, keeps ongoing conditions under control, decreases absenteeism at work and school, and reduces the cost of hospital and medical care needed. However, surveys indicate up to 40% of adults don’t buy the medicine they need or reduce the required dosage becuase they have difficulty affording the high cost.
Not only are individuals and families feeling the pinch, businesses and nonprofits alike are struggling. Learning to do more with less is a new and/or rejuvenated skill for many. That’s why United Way of Greater New Haven’s commitment to the Familywize Free Prescription Drug Discount Card Program is a well positioned and a timely resource.
The Familywize Free Prescription Drug Discount Card Program is a free discount program for the uninsured, under-insured, individuals who have maxed out their prescription drug coverage, or have prescriptions not covered by their existing plans.
