A Gap In Learning That Won't Go Away

The National Association of Educational Progress (NAEP) published results of a study on achievment gaps in education (see link below for the full report)

Education is the building block for a good life and strong community. United Way is investing in school readiness and academic achievement initiatives that help prepare children to enter school ready to learn, and young adults to be prepared for college, work and life. Education is essential to getting and keeping a job with a livable wage and health benefits. Research shows that activities in the early years of a child’s life are critical to future development and 3rd grade reading proficiency is necessary to successfully graduate from high school.

At United Way, we help children and youth achieve their highest potential through many collaborations, partnerships and civic engagement. For example; through our Success By 6 initiative, we invested $1.6 million to support children and families and made it possible for more than 1,100 children attend quality child care programs and over 1,200 children from kindergarten through high school benefited from high-quality after-school and summer programs during the past year.
