AT&T Gives Corporate Contribution

For over 60 years, AT&T and the AT&T Foundation have been strong supporters of the United Way both at the national and local levels.  Today, AT&T continues this legacy of support through a contribution of $49,500 to United Way of Greater New Haven.  In 2012 alone, AT&T gave $5.77 million to 574 local United Ways across the country.

United Way of Greater New Haven will use the contribution to support programs that create long lasting change in the local community. United Way is dedicated to improving lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world to advance the common good.  For example, in the past year:

• More than 1,900 school-age youth participated in high-quality after-school programs or received mentoring, tutoring or counseling services. More than 80% of parents reported that these services helped their children improve their grades in school.

• More than 17,000 meals were served to children and youth during the summer to prevent childhood hunger and to provide the good nutrition necessary for strong minds and bodies.

• 550 people were diverted from homelessness and into stable housing.

“For United Way to accomplish its goals we count on support from throughout the community,” said Jack Healy, president and CEO of United Way of Greater New Haven. “This generous contribution from AT&T will help fund programs that work toward lowering the high school drop-out rate, reducing homelessness, and getting our youngest children school-ready when they need attention most – before they start kindergarten.”

In addition to this contribution, each year AT&T employees take part in an employee giving campaign that provides millions of dollars to the United Way.  In 2011, AT&T employees, including employee members of the Communication Workers of America, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and the Telecommunications International Union, pledged $33.8 million through this campaign.

“AT&T shares United Way’s commitment to strengthening communities and improving lives,” said Kelly Wade Bettuchi, AT&T’s Director of External Affairs for the New Haven region.  “United Way of Greater New Haven’s support for programs with proven results in our community improves the lives of our citizens by connecting them with resources and expertise that helps them succeed.”
