Invest in a Child's Future

United Way of Greater New Haven is dedicated to making sure children enter school ready to learn.  We partner with local non-profits, community leaders, and parents, to coordinate and educate them on how to provide a quality learning expereince for young children.  For every dollar we invest in high-quality early childhood programs, the community saves $16 in costs such as special education, incarceration, and welfare.

Your support will:

  • Increase the number of low-income children who attend quality early education programs-Over 60 low-income preschoolers and infant/toddlers whose families  could not otherwise afford quality early care received tuition support for their children to attend a NAEYC-accredited or licensed center.

  • Provide accreditation training for child care providers- The Accreditation Initiative helps early care and education programs in Greater New Haven region maintain their accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The NAEYC focuses on the quality of educational and developmental services for children from birth through age 8.

  • Educate parents on how support their childrens development-UWGNH provides Born Learning materials to local organizations throughout the region that work with families who have young children.  These materials provide concrete ideas for how parents can support their child’s learning and healthy growth, including mealtime tips, learning games, and what to expect from a child at each age.
