Mission of the Young Leaders Society
Build a network of concerned Young Leaders in their 20’s and 30’s to foster the spirit of philanthropy, volunteerism and leadership in action.

Members of the Young Leaders Society have the opportunity to:

Grow.
Develop personally and professionally through opportunities such as nonprofit board training workshops and networking events. While participating, you’ll meet business and civic leaders from a variety of backgrounds and industries as well as other young professionals from around the region.

Serve.
Be invited to special group service events such as building wheelchair ramps for homebound seniors, renovating playgrounds for youth programs or helping distribute holiday gifts to needy families. Join Young Leaders and discover how you can serve.

Learn.
Learn about leadership and the programs that are changing our community. Joining Young Leaders will be an eye-opening experience that highlights our community’s challenges and opportunities. The Society gives members the tools to become leaders and make a difference.

Criteria for Membership
The Young Leaders Society (YLS) is composed of community oriented individuals under 40 years of age. Individuals who join choose to have a $1,000 impact in the areas of education, income and health. This pledge starts with the suggested commitment of a $100 gift however; the remainder can be fulfilled in any combination of the three following ways:
Giving – Make a donation directly to the education, income, health or community fund.
Advocating – Raise money and spread the word by: organizing a walkathon, going door to door or hosting a dinner event. More ideas.
Volunteering –In Connecticut volunteer time is valued at $27 per hour. Log your time spent improving conditions in education, income or health and we will count it toward your goal.
Note: In recognition of the commitment and sacrifice of employees of nonprofit organizations, United Way encourages those working in the areas of education, income and health to apply even if above requirement are not met.
Membership Benefits
Community- Invitations to forums and other educational opportunities, participation in group service projects, nonprofit board matching services, special invitations to events organized by our partners.
Social- Quarterly happy hours and other opportunities to meet community minded young professionals.
Recognition- Opportunities to mingle with members of the Leadership Circle and Tocqueville Society, listing as a Young Leader in United Way publications and special recognition at select workplaces.
Career- Invitation to special leadership building events.
Results- United Way will keep you up-to-date on the results of your gift and provide opportunities to directly see your gift in action through an e-newsletter and program tours.

There’s no time like the present to become more involved in the community! Join the YLS board and volunteer to be a member of our committees to help us create, plan, and organize events and projects for our members.
