Why become a member?
Join a Society of Philanthropists– Members receive recognition, along with their peers, in our annual Leadership Giving Book and in the United Way of America’s national Alexis de Tocqueville Society book (unless otherwise requested). All members are invited to the United Way reception for Leadership donors at which the annual Alexis de Tocqueville Award is presented. The award is given in recognition of individuals who embody the spirit of the Tocqueville society. Local Tocqueville Society leaders along with National Society and Million Dollar Roundtable members are invited to attend the annual National Tocqueville Leaders Weekend.
Receive Personalized Service – United Way keeps Tocqueville Society members regularly up-to-date on the results of their investment as people's lives are changed and community problems are solved. Many Tocqueville members have found that through United Way they are best able to work and meet with the community's business and civic leaders to make improvements in the social infrastructure and reach other charitable objectives. United Way staff is also happy to arrange other personalized benefits to Tocqueville members such as access to private tours of United Way funded programs.
Ease the Administrative Challenge of Giving – Tocqueville members receive additional options and benefits such as being able to create a personal Philanthropy Fund. The Philanthropy Fund allows members who meet a minimum unrestricted charitable gift to United Way to direct the distribution of checks to any 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations of their choice. United Way handles the administrative details. Tocqueville members choosing this option receive monthly activity statements and notice of funds available for distribution. Another giving option many Tocqueville members take advantage of is making a gift of stock. Members maximize the tax benefit of their charitable giving by doing so.
