Give an hour. Give a Saturday. Give your best. We all have special talents. Things we can do to help. And when we reach out a hand to one, we influence the condition of all. Whether it’s preparing a community garden for planting, leading financial literacy classes for hard-working families, or participating in a kindergarten canvass, there are hundreds of volunteer options available every day.
Help Us Support the Community
United Way of Greater New Haven offers opportunities to do hands-on work that supports community organizations, and provides expertise that helps individuals, families, and organizations succeed. These events include:
- Hands-On Saturdays: Family-friendly volunteer opportunities. Past events have focused on preparing community gardens for planting and landscaping and site work at community-serving agencies.
- Days of Caring: A United Way tradition every fall in which the community comes together to support agencies in need of help on specific projects. Past projects have included laying the foundation for a greenhouse at a community garden, sorting diapers at the Diaper Bank, and helping to prep and close a summer camp for winter.
- Kindergarten Canvass: United way of Greater New Haven is part of a team that comes together each August to knock on the door of every New Haven family with a student entering kindergarten. It's part of our strategy to engage families in their children's academic success, and to get the new students excited and comfortable with going to school.
And many more: United way organizes volunteers throughout the year for projects aligned with Education, Income, and Health/Basic Needs. If you are interested in supporting these efforts, please sign up for our email list, and indicate your interest in volunteering.
