Growing With Trees

As the field manager and logistical coordinator of URI’s GreenSkills program, I’ve spent the last month wrapping up our spring tree planting season and thinking about how we’ll move forward and make improvements to our program next fall.   One of the best parts of wrapping up is reuniting with our  spring 2011 planting crews based out of Empower Enterprise, a back-to-work program for ex-offenders, and Crossroads Inc, a substance-abuse treatment facility.  Although our spring planting season is only 6 weeks long, our groups formed a cohesive bond and it felt so good to be back together!  It

The Community Leadership Program

The Community Leadership Program (CLP) is entering its tenth year this Fall. The program continues to improve every year and has made a real difference in the Greater New Haven community. She was talking with a new student of hers and introduced me.

I am the Director of STRIVE-New Haven, a United Way partner agency, and I recently attended a one-day Harwood Institute seminar on October 21. It was a day that inspired great thought and conversation, and was certainly a call to action for myself and the other individuals represented in the room to turn outward towards our community.

A Saturday at Farnam Neighborhood House

I showed up to Farnam Neighborhood House and although it was early on a hot Saturday morning, Fillmore Street was bustling with life. While I am not a morning person, I was eager to learn what the day would hold.
