From Letter Sounds to Learning Success: the Kindergarten Program at New Haven Reads

I can’t believe that 2012 is nearly upon us!  During the last six months, New Haven Reads Kindergarten Literacy Program, funded in part by United Way, has concluded another successful summer reading intensive and is well into its seventh year of afterschool classes.  Thirty-three kindergarteners and eight pre-k students come twice a week to 45 Bristol St.

Volunteer Tutors Needed in Boost! School

Help students experience the joy and power of reading by becoming a volunteer tutor for the 2011-2012 school year at Augusta Lewis Troup School with New Haven Reads.  Volunteer tutors are needed on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays from 3:00-4:45 pm to work with 1st and 2nd graders at Augusta Lewis Troup School located at 259 Edgewood Avenue, New Haven.  Troup School is one of five Boost! schools that aims to increase access to quality wraparound services by giving students the supports, health and social services they need for success in school.

New Haven Reads Kicks Off a New School Year!

New Haven Reads has just kicked off another year of tutoring, and our School Aged Youth program is growing by leaps and bounds!

This year, we have expanded our program by scheduling our youngest children at both our main site, and our Science Park site. The kindergarten and pre-k program now run from 3-7, Monday to Thursday. By doing this, we are able to reach over 40 children!
