We recently switched our website to run off of a Content Management System called Drupal. CMS allow staff of all technical abilities to contribute to the site. While some of the staff may start out by simply commenting on a post, others may dive right in to creating static pages.  In order to understand what training is required I am surveying each staff member to identify their abilities and interest in online communication.  The surveys will help me determine their potential contributions to the site, as well as the pace in which those contributions can be made.  This data will allow me to customize the training approach for each co-worker while managing my own and their expectations for the new tools.

 

Although the initial investment in online communication may at times seem steep, the advantages of having a 21st century staff poised to take advantage of new media will pay off over time.
