"The Economics of a Great Education"

As a New Haven resident and education advocate, I have been thrilled to see New Haven Public Schools and various other philanthropic and community organizations embracing bold strategies for school improvement. There is a wonderful energy across the city, with adults and youth alike thinking about what it would take to give every student what they need (both academically and financially) to get to and through college successfully. In the spirit of continuing this conversation and learning from successes in other states, my organization, the Connecticut Black Alliance for Educational Options (CT BAEO) is hosting a FREE event next Saturday, February 5, at Yale Law School.

CT BAEO’s 2nd Annual Education Policy Forum, themed, “The Economics of Great Education” will feature a keynote panel of notable education thought leaders, including Virginia Secretary of Education, Gerard T. Robinson and Connecticut Commissioner, Ramani Ayer. Just after, there will be an Education Champions Dinner and special program from 7:00-9:00PM, featuring stirring remarks from Kevin P. Chavous, co-founder and chairman of Democrats for Education Reform. Due to the generosity of our Champion Sponsors, both the panel and dinner are FREE to all attendees.

As a proud alumna of both Waterbury Public Schools and Yale College, I believe in the transformative power of a great education. It was my sincere desire to work to ensure that every child receive the opportunities that I had as a public school student that motivated me to found CT BAEO in fall 2009, and I hope that you will join our growing team and distinguished guests for an evening of meaningful dialogue and networking next Saturday.
