JR- Hello and welcome to another community voices podcast.
(Music)
JR- Would you like to introduce yourself?
Wendy- I'm Wendy Kravitz.
JR- Hello Wendy and would you tell us a little bit about what you do professionally and any other volunteer roles you might be in?
Wendy- My main job at this point is being head of the board of a young childcare center called Friend Center for Children in Fairhaven heights area of Newhaven and I'm also on the board of united way
JR- What are some of your personal aspirations and your aspirations that you see from the perspective as a volunteer for our community?
Wendy- I think my greatest aspiration is to try to find ways of connecting people who are very diverse and different so they can feel on level playing ground and be able to talk and share stories and just be together in community, I think we’re a very divided community and state in particular and id like to bridge some of the gaps I see.
JR- Have you seen anything along those lines that gives you hope for bridging the gaps or successes that might turn into something?
Wendy- That’s part of the reason I do the work I do at friend center, I see people coming together and working for their children and with their children who come from very different backgrounds and sometimes have to work to understand each other and unbelievably when people really have a goal in mind and very often it’s for their children, there’s a real sense of coming together for the better good of what they want for their children and that’s incredibly encouraging to me.
JR- Those are wonderful thoughts, did you have anything else to say before we sign off?
Wendy- I hope that there’s ways united way is reaching out to the community and working with different diverse groups toward goals that pull us together that’s what I'm coming from and working toward to help people who have challenges and bind people together to feel like we’re a group and working together instead of against each other.
