September 15-21,

Special Thanks to All the Diaper Drive Sites that Participated in the First Ever Healthy Baby Diaper Drive!

The Healthy Baby Diaper Drive was a great opportunity to educate people about community needs around the affects of poverty on children's education and health. It was a strong entry point to connect companies, donors, and volunteers with the work of United Way.

The Healthy Baby Diaper Drive:

  • Collected 100,000 diapers, which was double the original goal of collecting 50,000 diapers for families in need in Greater New Haven
  • Egaged 33 companies to participate and host nearly 70 diaper collection sites across the Greater New Haven region
  • In addition to diapers, over 10,000 Born Learning materials were distributed from Diaper Drive sites to teach about the importance of early childhood education and provide activities for families to do with their children to improve their ability to learn at an early age

Touch a Truck raised over 25,000 diapers on September 13th to kick-start The Healthy Baby Diaper Drive

All diapers raised at Touch a Truck were distributed to 6 non-profit agencies on the shoreline to be given out to families in need specifically in Branford, Guilford, and Madison

Over 1,300 people from all over Greater New Haven attended Touch a Truck to support United Way and The Healthy Baby Diaper Drive

The Importance of The Healthy Baby Diaper Drive

As the cost of basic needs – food, heating, transportation – continue to rise, many families

are facing a terrible choice between food or heat and diapers for children. An adequate supply of disposable diapers can cost a family over $100 per month.

Joanne Goldblum explains why the Diaper Drive is important

In low-income households, babies often spend the entire day or longer in a single diaper because the family cannot afford to buy an adequate supply of diapers. Without clean diapers, babies are too uncomfortable, and sometimes too unhealthy, to play and learn. Parents can also become disheartened and disconnected when they struggle to care for their babies.

How United Way Helps Babies Learn

United Way partners with people, nonprofits, schools and health care providers across our community to ensure that our children are healthy and have the opportunity to learn. Success By 6 is United Way of Greater New Haven’s to ensure that more children throughout the region come to school ready to learn and have a solid foundation for lifelong success.
